Cleckheaton action

Doncaster sent a strong squad XV to get their Yorkshire Cup campaign underway and came away from Moorends with a comfortable seven tries to one victory. The home side fielded their strongest side and battled away throughout in a creditable performance that belied their league position; but Doncaster had too much firepower up front and too much pace in the backs and were always going to win comfortably with a line up that contained none of the starters in last Saturday's battle with the Leeds Tykes.

Debutant Bryn Griffiths was solid at set pieces, and occasionally showed in open play as he settled into the team structure.

First half tries by Rob Worrincy, Ben Phillips, Ollie Cook and Mark Woodrow - three converted by Woodrow, kept the scoreboard ticking - and Cleckheaton were kept in the hunt by a fine try by centre Tom Lauriston, converted by Oliver Ackroyd whose prodigious boot also landed a long distance penalty. Half time 10-26.

Ackroyd reduced the gap early second period with another huge penalty, but three further tries from Dan Storey, Netani Talei and Paul Bailey, one added to by Woodrow and the last one by Dave Scully, stretched the lead.

Doncaster: Deakin (Carter 60), Worrincy, Hunt, Ellis, Bailey, Woodrow (Scully 60), Storey (Billam 70), Rawson (List 40), Phillips, Barretto, Griffiths (Stirland 70), Wilkinson, Cusack (Talei 40), Peacey, O Cook.

Referee: Jon Owen (Yorkshire)
