Knights Sign Boyde

Doncaster Knights made the opportunist signing of back row player Andy Boyde from Leeds Carnegie, to strengthen options at no 8. 23 year old Boyde , originally from Adel in Leeds is no stranger to Castle Park. During 2005 Andy played for England U19s at Castle Park against Italy and France, the team winning the Grandslam at that age group. When asked about his memories of the game Andy Commented “ Castle Park has been a happy hunting ground for me, I got Man of the Match against France and it was that stage of my career I felt I could have a chance in the professional game”.

Last season in National League One Andy made 19 appearances for the eventually promoted Leeds Carnegie, scoring 8 tries in all competitions. One of the key factors he admits influenced his move to Doncaster was the Knights victory over their Yorkshire rivals last season.

“ That game had it all” Andy told us “Doncaster inflicted Leeds first loss of the season, and I was watching in the stand. It affirmed things I’d been told by players like Michael Cusack about how good the setup was”.

The 189cm tall, 108kg back row player was a team mate of another new Knights signing James Brookes. “ Speaking to people I had played alongside, and looking at the facilities and record at Doncaster it was an easy decision for me and I’m happy to be playing my rugby in Yorkshire”.
