This morning I sat down with Doncaster Knights Assistant Coach Brett Davey to discuss how pre season is going at Castle Park, as well as asking for his thoughts on the Knights final match of their pre season campaign against Glasgow Warriors.
‘Well we’ve just started the second phase of pre season as the players have came back from their week off, their week off was always planned & now they’re back in they know it’s time to kick on and that the next rest they’ll be having won’t be until May’. Brett explained.
‘It’s going to be all systems go from here on in now’. ‘Right now they’ve got a two week focus on getting their conditioning done and then we’ll start looking at the Rugby aspects and what we need to do’, he continued.
At the end of the month the players are going away to an Army Camp as a final part of the warm up before the pre season games start.
Here Brett explains what is in store for the squad at camp, ‘At the camp it’s purely going to be working on rugby and making sure the boys are going to be ready leading into the first pre season game at Pontypridd in August’.
Moving onto the Knights match with Glasgow Warriors I was interested to know what he thought about the opposition from north of the border.
‘I think it’s great having a side like them down here to finish off our pre season, they’re top Magners League opposition and have been a professional side for a good number of years now so it’s a good opportunity for us to gauge where we are’.
‘It will be like the final building block for the team before the start of the season, which is our priority, but obviously you want to go out there and do you’re best in all games’.
‘I also think it’s great that its a Friday night game which should hopefully provide a different kind of atmosphere and hopefully we’ll be able to play some rugby that is as good a standard as the pitch that we’ll be playing on, which is looking superb at the moment’.
