An update from the Knights Fitness & Conditioning Coach Scott Pearson, by James Oliver

14th July 2009

Today just before he was about to take the Knights forwards out on another ‘Hill running session’ I was able to have a quick catch up with Scott about how pre season has gone this year in his eyes.

‘Well, I’m quietly pleased with how it’s gone to be honest, although we’re not going to know really until they’ve played the first game. It’s not like you can say it’s been perfect because if they go out and lose badly then it’s obviously not gone too well’, Scott explained.

‘I’m really pleased with how it’s flowed, and how well the new things that I’ve introduced have gone down with the boys who to be fair to them have been fabulous, they’ve shown a really good professional attitude towards everything that I’ve asked of them’.

As the pre season games are now starting to approach the squad haven’t got too many more days until they start work on the rugby, as Scott explain,
‘This is pretty much the last week of fitness and conditioning now for them, next week it’s going to be more focus on the rugby side of it and pushing ahead to the three friendly’s’.

‘They’re going to be putting a lot of training time before the match’s start and they’re also going to be worked a bit harder than they normally would in the warm up, so it’ll be interesting to see how well they get on in Pontypridd’.

On a final note I was curious to ask what the recent kitchen related activity that the players have been doing is for,

‘That’s another one of the things that I’ve introduced, the players have started doing cooking courses with Jan & Jenny in the kitchen. I’m quite pleased with how well the players have bought into this one, basically they are learning how to cook meals with a mix of high protein and low carbs’. ‘Hopefully over the course of the season they should be able to see the benefit from it’.
