Once again as pre season kicks in team captain Glen Kenworthy shows the new recruits how it is done by romping home in the hill run, still showing his dominance despite being the oldest player on show.
Kenworthy, promoted to team captain last season, partnered with new second row recruit Townson to put the young lock through his paces as the traditional hill run on the old Armthorpe Colliery site welcomes everyone back to pre season. Not just a tradition for the Knights, the old spoil heap is part of the training regime of Doncaster Phoenix and the Knights Acdemy and Colts sides. As the junior players progress through the various age groups of Doncaster Rugby Club the hill becomes to play a major part of stamina training sessions.
Today was the hottest day of the year so far, unhappily coinciding with the first hill run. Liike everyone from the juniors upwards at Doncaster Rugby club the Knights squad went out and completed their circuits no matter what the conditions. The sweltering heat definitely took its toll on the forwards, but everyone came through the session seccessfully.
In injury news Chris Planchant and Adam Kettle both took part in rowing and weights sessions this morning, in an attempt to keep their recovery time to a minimum.
With a tough start in the new Rugby Championship including games against Bedford , Exeter and Cornish Pirates in the first three games, everyone is pulling out all the stops for what promises to be the toughest start to a campaign yet.
Your first opportunity to see the Knights in action at Castle Park is on the 21st August at 7.30pm, as they take on Magners League side Glasgow Warriors in the only home pre season friendly.
