Match Report
Gael Force swept into Castle Park this Monday and came away victorious in this close fought match. They took the match with a try five minutes from the final whistle through winger (21).
The visitors got off to a bright stark and were unlucky not to take an early lead as their fly half’s first penalty attempt of the evening hit the post in the seventh minute. It wasn’t too long thought before the home time got going and minutes after Gael Force were punished. Lewis Thiede scored the first of two tries in ten minutes as the Doncaster forwards began to stamp their authority. The young prop was on hand to touch down after three solid drives from the forwards after a line out win. The lead was double to 14-0 as the referee awarded the home side a penalty try as the Doncaster forwards were causing Gael Force all kinds of problems from a five metre scrum. Joe Wright, a fly half from Doncaster’s academy added both conversions. But as the half went on the visitors began to grow into the game and hit back with two tries of their own before the break. The first after their hooker took a quick tap which set up a flowing left to right move for the winger (14) to score. Then just as the half was coming to an end Doncaster were penalised in their own 22 and Gael Force punished them with their replacement prop (27) going over. Their fly half was able to add the conversion leaving them two points adrift going into the break.
The second half continued in the same vein with the visitors enjoying the better of territory and possession but unfortunately they were unable to score. And when Doncaster turned a scrum deep in the Gael Force half just shy of the hour, Chris Planchant was able to score for the home side. This time Wright couldn’t add the conversion. The Doncaster try didn’t deter the visitors who when they had ball in hand looked dangerous on every occasion. Their fullback pegged the score back shortly after with a penalty after the forwards had made good ground down field. Things didn’t get any easier for Doncaster as they lost Neil Cochrane to the sin bin with eight minutes to go, after the flanker was punished for interfering at the breakdown. With the man advantage Gael Force were able to get the score which on the balance of the second half they deserved. This try came through replacement winger (21), who was on hand to score after the ball was spread along the line catching Doncaster out. The try put the visitors in the lead by a point which turned out to be crucial as their full back was unable to add the conversion and then in dying minute of the game Doncaster were awarded a penalty as Gael Force were caught offside. Unfortunately Wright’s kick was put wide and the visitors were victorious moments later as the referee blew for full time.
