Thanks to support of some fantastic organisations such as 231 Mess and Round Table, on top of fantastic effort from the partners and Wives of our first team playing squad Doncaster Knights are proud to say we hosted a fantastic fundraising event.
As well as the donations as part of the price of the meal, other fundraising efforts for SSAFA ( Forces Help) went brilliantly, with comments from SSAFA staff that they had run out of raffle tickets and fundraising materials before kick off.
The themed three course meal came after an introduction by the Chairman of South Yorkshire SSAFA Alan Tolhurst, with the speeches afterwards finishing off a great day. Themed entertainment provided by Armthorpe Elmfield Brass Band made for a great day, sparking a sing song in the room which for many was an introduction to “Rugby Club” enjoyment despite the sombre nature of the fundraising subject.
With the Players of both teams and the Referee in support a Bugler provided by Armthorpe and Elmfield Brass band blew the Last Post, a poignant reminder under the floodlights of the upcoming Remembrance Day.
With Ben Parkinson as an honoured guest, and BBC Look North in attendance to film the proceedings Castle Park can surely say they did their duty in supporting the people who support our troops in these difficult times.
