Doncaster Knights A XV will face a stern test on Monday evening 2nd November at 5.30 pm as the team known as Gael Force invade Castle Park. Due to the tough nature of the opposition and the number of players returning from injury this game is set to feature many first team players who have been absent from playing in recent weeks. As always AXV games are free of charge to watch at Castle Park, despite the top notch opposition.
Gael Force represents Scotland alongside last season’s Scottish Hydro Premier Division 1 champions Ayr and reigning Scottish Hydro Cup holders Heriot’s in the British and Irish Cup, the new cross border competition into which Doncaster Knights have been entered.
Scotland National Academy manager Stephen Gemmell, said: “We felt it was important that the team had its own identity entering this new competition so we’ve chosen a name that links to our Scottish roots and that we think is dynamic and vibrant.”
“Gael Force will be chosen from the ranks of our National Academy players and will be supplemented from players within our two pro-team squads, Edinburgh and Glasgow Warriors, who are not figuring in Magners League action during games in the British and Irish Cup.’’
Gael Force will be taking on full strength RFU Championship sides, Such as Exeter and Cornish Pirates, in the cross border competition. This shows the level of game awaiting the Knights A XV against a Scottish side looking to prove itself pre competition.
