Bristol, 24th October, 3pm KO
THE grand finale of the Oktoberfest month hits Castle Park on Saturday 24th October as the team to beat, Bristol Rugby, travel north from “The Mem” to be our home opposition.
This is your chance to cheer on the Knights as they look to deliver another hammer blow to a side many would tip for a return to the Guinness Premiership. Those fans who were there for last season’s electric victory over Leeds Carnegie know just how Lynn Howells’ men relish the big games...
Traditionally, the team relegated from the Premiership, with its huge financial advantage, is seen as unbeatable. It took a lion-like performance at Castle Park from the Knights last season to inflict that first defeat on Leeds Carnegie, as the West Yorkshire club went on to claim the top spot and promotion last season.
This season, though, Bristol rugby have shown weakness. After crawling past Bedford by only one point, the Bristolian “Great Western” was derailed last Saturday by Exeter Chiefs. The Memorial Ground should be considered a fortress, as relegated Premiership sides, with their financial advantage, can normally count on a full set of home wins. But Bristol have dropped the ball on this statistic, which gives hope of another “Premiership” scalp at Castle Park. The Chiefs shook the foundations of the Mem, and how Bristol react to this reminder of mortality is yet to be seen.
Once again, the Army Zone will be in full force to test the junior fans of Doncaster Knights. Adding to the excitement of the climbing tower at this game will be “the wrecking ball”. The juniors of Doncaster will be tested to the limit. So far, they have kept pace with the Armed Forces!
For the parents, this time the Knights, in conjunction with Carlsberg Tetley, will be introducing a Beer Festival concept of “drink your way around the world”. Tetley’s are preparing a deal to import beers from around the world to entertain the palettes of our discerning fans - and all at a deal price to make the day one of value for money. There will be a happy hour offer running pre and post match.
Tickets can be purchased online for this event via the Knights website at www.drfc.co.uk
As part of the Oktoberfest deal, those buying tickets for any two separate games in the club shop can receive a ticket to the next game of the sequence, eg buy Bristol and Birmingham tickets get Ayr free. This offer ends on the first day of November.
