A Stranger no more.

Simon Grainger will not be part of the Doncaster Knights squad for the 2010-11 Championship Season. After 6 years at the club “The Stranger” has decided it is time to return to Wales and focus on what he will do after Rugby. Simon will be available for selection for the 3pm kick off at Castle Park this Saturday as the Knights take on london Welsh for a place in the promotion semi final.

Rather than put forward and article on Simon Grainger leaving Doncaster Knights, we have decided to let Graing explain his reasons in the form of a letter to the fans.

In his own Words.

“To the fans of Doncaster Knights.

To leave this club has been the hardest decision I have had to make in my rugby career.

The decision is based purely on starting a career when I finish playing Rugby, and I have decided it is time for me to relocate to Wales which will always be my home.

Little did I know how much I would enjoy my time here in Doncaster as much as I have done when I signed back in 2003. 6 years down the line I look back on my time with a huge smile on my face for the experiences Doncaster Rugby Club has given me. The battles on the pitch and the friendships made off it have been brilliant.

I have too many people to thank. Firstly the Board for their advice and the opportunities they have given me and the coaches for allowing me to learn and develop in the game I love. I need to give a huge thanks to the supporters who have given me their support when times were good, but more importantly when times are hard. I also need to thank the players past and present, who have become lifelong friends.

I always wore the Doncaster Jersey with great pride and that is how I will look back on my 6 seasons here: being proud to play for Doncaster.

I wish the club every success for the 2010-11 Season and will always look out for the scores.

Yours.

Simon Grainger.”

In other news, it has been confirmed by the club that after discussions this week Club Captain Glen Kenworthy has accepted an offer to continue playing at Doncaster next season. The experienced second row player had intended to retire at the end of this season, but has had a change of heart and will look to retain the Captains armband for one more year.
