After an impressive trial period, encompassing the two pre season friendly games, Andy Gates has signed a deal to play for Doncaster Knights this season.
The 20 year old, who stands 6'1" and weighs in at 15 stone play at Inside Centre and worked hard in pre season to secure his place. Andy began his career with Melbourne RFC ( Derbyshire) before moving on to play for Derby. While at Derby Andy appeared for Leicester Tigers Academy as part of their setup and during that time spent time Dual registered with Nottingham.
The Young Centre returned to Derby last season to ensure more Rugby time and further his development, but injury cut short his season in January with that being his last Rugby of the 2009/10 season.
Like the Irish duo of Farivarz and Cahill Andy came to Doncaster a triallist with a desire to play for the club, even paying his own way at Castle Park while attempting to earn the respect and confidence of the club. Andy also came to the club at his own expense, paying his own way through Pre season entirely so intent was he on proving himself to the club.
