Despite the season long injury problems at Castle Park and the “Big Freeze”
causing the horrendous fixture pile up that led to 9 games in 27 days Doncaster Knights are now top of Group D in the British and Irish Cup. True to the running theme of the season also the Castle Park side is doing it with a game in hand over the majority of their rivals.

Having scored bonus point wins (4 tries or more) over Ayr and more recently Cardiff at Castle Park the Knights sit in pole position with the maximum 10 points on offer from their 2 games played.
Second in their group are Rotherham Titans, which makes it a South Yorkshire
1 and 2, but with Rotherham having lost a game and having conceded 61 points to the Knights 17 conceded points difference tells at the apex of the table.

Group D has proved to be the most competitive of the British and Irish Cup pools, with only one point separating the top 4 teams (Doncaster, Rotherham, Ayr, Cardiff). Topping the other pool groups are Leinster A (Group A), Munster A (Group B) and London Welsh sit on top of Group C.

With both of the Knights remaining British and Irish Cup Games making up part of their run of 9 games in 27 days the South Yorkshire side will need focus to remain in this position. Their 27th February game against Birmingham and Solihull at Castle Park could be the key fixture as they know a bonus point win against the struggling fellow Championship side would cement their position at the top of the group. With games to follow at Clifton lane and Sardis Rd there is once again no easy route for the Knights, but as they have proved this season they are able to flourish under pressure and adversity.

You can witness the Doncaster Knights next home game in the British and Irish Cup at Castle Park on the 27th February as they host Birmingham and Solihull in the cross border competition.
