Team announcement on hold

Doncaster Knights Director of Rugby Lynn Howells has decided to wait until after today’s team run and fitness test sessions to announce his 22 for the Bedford game as the run of 9 games in 27 days begins to take it’s toll.

4 games in to this herculean effort Doncaster are 4 wins to the good, and this Saturday’s contest at Goldington Road will see them past the half way mark and although the squad is holding together player welfare is the most important issue. To this end extra fitness tests and physio support have been scheduled for today to make sure Doncaster have covered every possible angle to protect their most important assets.

Doncaster now hold 7th place in the RFU Championship making this game against Bedford key to digging into the playoff promotion spots, the 33 points to 7 win over Birmingham and Solihull on Wednesday propelling them above Plymouth Albion and Moseley with still a game in hand over the pair. Highlights of that game can be seen HERE, courtesy of Martin Watson.

With the game in hand being next Wednesday away at League Leaders Bristol these next two games are the toughest in the series of 7. Although not Make or Break some kind of result in either contest would give the South Yorkshire side a huge platform to build on when taking on Plymouth Albion in the crunch home game “March 13th”
Howells commented “Right now I am considering how we take on Bedford, as I have proven by the result against Cardiff I expect my team to run out looking for the win in every game we play. Every game is the time to bring your A game in my book, there are no easy games at this level.”

When asked about the huge clash with Plymouth Albion on the 13th, Howells kept on the same theme. “Whether it is a relegation / promotion playoff decider is not in my hands, what is in my hands is the selecting of 22 men to go out and give everything they have for Doncaster Rugby club on that day and that is what matters”.

The game at Goldington Road is a classic encounter of scintillating attack v rock solid defence as the 3rd highest scoring team in the league comes up against the second meanest defence. Only Bristol have conceded less points than Doncaster in the league this season despite Doncaster’s injury crisis for the majority of the time.
It is time to set that shield wall once more as the Knights take on the Blues at Goldington rd with a 2.30pm kick off.
