AS I write this article, the show is falling heavily. We definitely needed a miracle to fulfil our fixture this weekend, and unfortunately we didn’t get it. Another game to re-arrange is a complete nightmare as we are already stacking up the fixtures yet to be played. However, if we are to draw any positives from this it would be the additional time that the injured players are getting to recover.
We now have Dougie Flockhart back in the squad and are down to six players injured at the moment. Dougie is a bonus on the wing, as we have Matty Williams recovering from his shoulder operation. We are hoping that 2010 will bring some welcome good fortune and give us a better outlook on the injury front. If all goes to plan we should have four or five of the currently injured players back at the end of the month.
This will obviously make a massive difference to us as we start to play midweek fixtures to make up for lost time. Of the current injuries, Chris Planchant, having suffered another devastating blow with an injury to his right knee, will be out for the rest of the season, having had stage one of the reconstruction last week.
Nick Griffiths, Tom Doughty and Matt Williams are all working very hard in the gym following their injuries and will hopefully soon be back in the mix for selection. I hope everyone enjoys the first game of 2010 today and has a fantastic new year.
