Doncaster Knights Director of Rugby Lynn Howells today announced a front row signing who will be instantly recognisable to fans of Doncaster Knights.
Michael Cusack, a player who has made in advance of 30 appearances for his home town club since signing from Leeds Carnegie 2 seasons ago was reported to have moved to fellow RFU Championship club London Welsh this Summer. The Doncaster born prop had been predominantly been used in a substitute role last season and like all players had an ambition to forward his playing career.
Cusack told us “London Welsh are a great club of a similar standing to Doncaster Knights, a club with a great past and future. Several situations had changed for me over the Summer which made me look at my situation. The changes made it clear that I would be spending the 2010-11 Championship Season working hard alongside the likes of Steve Boden at Castle Park. ”
Michael, a player who played his Junior Rugby at Doncaster as well as being a keen local youth Cricketer, has now joined his team mates in training after a period and will be part of Lynn Howells plans for the Pre Season friendlies.
Director of Rugby Lynn Howells had a clear opinion of Cusack’s decisions. “Without doubt I am delighted that Michael will be a Doncaster Knights player this season. Our coaching staff will now aim to push him on as a player and help him achieve his ambitions. I find it heartening that Michael understands that the pride in playing for your home town club can be a factor, that is an honour I experienced myself.
The first chance to see the Knights in action at Castle Park is the prestige Friendly on Friday 20th August, the 7.30pm kick off has the Knights taking on Premiership Leeds Carnegie. Check the knights website on www.drfc.co.uk for Terrace Ticket details on this game.
