
Irishmen Shane Cahill and Zack Farivarz have signed contracts with Doncaster Knights after impressing the coaching staff with their commitment, fitness and skills after a month’s trial with the Castle Park club. The 23 year old pair, who have both spent several seasons developing their rugby skills at Dublin side Blackrock RFC were recommended to Doncaster Knights by an Irish contact of new strength and conditioning Coach Paul Devlin.
Carl Gilligan, a strength and conditioning coach from the Republic of Ireland sang the praises of the two players and a month long trial at the home of the Knights ensued.
Both players are aged 23 and last season played for Blackrock RFC in the All Ireland 1st Division. Loose head prop Shane is just over 6’ tall and weighs in at 17st describing himself as a “destructive scrummager” although he admi’s the step up in quality will be a challenge. “ Blackrock is such a great club with great coaches and fans” Shane commented “hopefully we can play well for Doncaster and win the support of the fans her now”.

traditionally, at 15 stone he himself is no lightweight and is determined to work hard to justify his place in the first team squad. “It isn’t that the players in this league are much bigger, it’s the sheer physicality and fitness of the forwards that means we will have to up our game” Zack told us during his interview, “both of us worked hard to impress during our month here and to be rewarded with a contract is good news”.
Both players have an eye on making their home debut on Friday 20th August as the Knights take on Leeds Carnegie at home with a 7.30pm kick off.
