We have recently published a list of players who are leaving the club and have made particular mention of Simon Grainger. It is perhaps fitting that we should make mention of a few others who have given the club good service over a number of seasons.
The first we would like to acknowledge is our own Tom Davies who has moved to Cardiff Blues. Tom and his twin brother Aled joined us in the Under 16s and both were outstanding rugby players in their age groups. When the club became semi-professional under Clive Griffiths, Tom was offered a full-time contract and he accepted putting his university studies on hold. Since then Tom has been a great player for the Club, a player with a massive heart who never backed down. We are delighted to see “one of our own” make it so close to the top of the rugby tree and we wish him all the best at the Blues. We will follow his progress next season with interest
Another old friend who will not be with us next season is the Tongan legend Ngalu Tau. Ngalu has given wonderful service to the club and he has been a great ambassador for the game of rugby football. Never beaten, Ngalu was one of the bricks on which the Knights built their reputation as having one of the most formidable packs in the Championship (or National One) over recent seasons. Another absolute gentleman who always had time to stop for a word and an absolute icon with the kids. The vast majority of mascots we have had over recent seasons have always given the mighty Tongan as their favourite player. We wish him all the very best for the future and thank for everything that he has done for the club.
It is farewell also to “Shaggy”. On and off the field "Shaggy" was a great crowd favourite and was invaluable to us all as Club captain. Great under a high ball and absolutely solid in defence, “Shaggy” was brilliant to have at full back, particularly when the conditions were not very good. Another player who was absolutely great with the kids. “Shaggy” over recent seasons has tried to mix his sport whilst trying to forge a career and we wish him all the best as he seeks to finish his Masters.
