At 21 years old Dominic Parsons stands an impressive 6 foot 8 inches and already had three seasons at Sheffield Tigers behind him to count as experience on that long road to becoming a proficient Lock. In a position that experience counts for everything it can be tough on a young player, but having players like Dave Scully and Simon Bunting coaching him at the Dore Moor club has helped him develop and improve his game. Dom has signed for Doncaster not just as one for the future but in an attempt to become one for the present, knowing he will have to work hard to compete with other new signing Matt Challinor.

“ This to me is a real challenge I have to admit” admitted Dom “ but with players to learn from with the calibre of Glen Kenworthy I think if I work hard there is a chance for me to improve and attempt to get in a match day squad. Moving to a full time training regime will give me the chance to test myself , I intend to give it my best shot.”

With the coaching and playing relationship between Doncaster Knights and Sheffield Tigers blossoming over the past few seasons both sides committed to a partnership last season that saw many Academy players make the trip from Castle Park to Dore Moor to gain experience. The relationship between the two clubs is looking set to strengthen year on year as the first season was a definite success.

On the reverse journey several Sheffield Tigers player took part in A XV and Friendly games for Doncaster Knights and Dom Parsons was one of the stand out players in that time.

Dom told us “ Playing for the Knights AXV against Leicester Tigers AXV was a lesson in itself for me. Playing alongside the likes of Hudson Tonga’Uiha was of great benefit, not just for me but for the other lads from Sheffield Tigers also”.

Having played his junior Rugby for Chesterfield Rugby Club and made many appearances for the NLD Midlands side before moving on to Sheffield Tigers.
