THE COLDSTREAM GUARDS AND THE RIFLES RETURN FROM AFGHANISTAN
Following the enormous success of Doncaster’s Red Friday event last November further plans are taking shape to honour our homecoming troops again with a weekend of “Red Friday” fun.
Our troops are finally on their way home from Afghanistan after many months away from family and friends and as widely reported in the local news the Doncaster regiments – The Coldstream Guards and The Rifles have both suffered many injuries and sadly some fatalities.
For this 3 day Red Friday event we are supporting both local regiments in a weekend crammed with entertainment.....
RED Friday : 28th May: The Hallcross from 8pm.
Live acoustic music from some of the 'Soldiers Letter' cd artists plus guests also the gorgeous Upstage Dancers and live dance band Pink Noise.
Members of both regiments will be present on the night along with the infamous Army Battack Machine for those feeling energetic!
RED Saturday: 29th May: The Hallcross from 9pm.
One of Doncasters favorite bands Tobias will support the regiments along with Three Litre Capri and UV Pop.
RED Sunday: 30th May : Castle Park (Armthorpe) from 12pm
Sponsored Fire Engine pull from the top of Hallgate at 11am.
Doncaster Dragons and Doncaster Phoenix play host to an 'It’s a Knockout' competition. The Coldstreams’ and Rifles will also be present along with an inflatable firing range for the kids among us to have a go. There will be live music, bouncy castle, face painter and we are also supported by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service who have loaned a fire engine which the Dragons and Phoenix teams will pull in a sponsored relay.
“All funds raised will be used to assist the families of those members of the Battalions who are killed in action, to support those injured on operations and their families and to support our returning soldiers by facilitating their transition to everyday life again.”
