Brett Davey has spoke of his disappointment after the narrow loss to South Yorkshire rivals, Rotherham Titans on the weekend, but insists it’s not all doom and gloom.
The DOR said: “We didn’t work hard enough and we weren’t smart enough. We got the ball stolen from us so many times and we made too many errors, yet after all that we were a minute away from winning the game and that’s after a poor performance.
“The result wasn’t satisfying, but there were plenty of positives to take forward and we know if we play to our potential results will follow.”
Doncaster Knights have a short turn around ahead of a midweek fixture with London Welsh on Wednesday before their last stage one clash with league leaders Bristol and the coaching team intend on giving each player a chance to impress ahead of the play-offs.
“We didn’t play well so there will be changes, but it will be the best team we can pick. There were three things that we really want to focus on and analysis will point them out this week – but we can’t continue making these errors and other lads will get their chance this week.”
Davey singled out home debutant Gareth Quinn-McDonogh in the last minute defeat as showing huge potential for the future and hopes the record attendance of just over 4,000 can stick with the Knights to pull them through.
“I was impressed with Gareth on his home debut, he has a lot to learn, but that’s his first taste of that environment and he will be better for it – I just hope the fans can show faith and keep behind the team.
“Fair play to Garry Law it was a great kick and he deserves it, we’ve got to dust ourselves down and pick our chins up for a tough week ahead of knock-out rugby.”
