Tag Rugby
The Tag Rugby Programme is the area of DIRECT's work that is best-known. Engaging large numbers of children every year, the programme concentrates on Year 5 and 6 pupils, giving them their first taste of rugby.
Because of the non-contact nature of tag rugby, boys and girls play together with no fear of injury. Currently, DIRECT works in partnership with Doncaster Knights to ensure that every primary school across Doncaster receives tag rugby coaching. Schools are coached in families called Pyramids, with each Pyramid having an end-of-coaching block tournament to decide the leading school from the Pyramid. At the end of the academic year, all of the Pyramid champions come together to play in the Doncaster Tag Rugby Final to decide on the champion school for the area.
Most of the Pyramid tournaments run by DIRECT take place on a Doncaster Knights matchday, with others held strategically at community clubs' venues to assist with recruitment to the junior sections of local community clubs.
