Scully the fireman in pole position
Dave Scully, the Knights' veteran scrum-half and one of the great men of English rugby, is in line to become the first player to make an incredible 350 league appearances when the Knights play Exeter on Saturday. Scully, who has played every season since leagues were introduced in 1987, is still going strong in National One at the age of 40 following his move from Otley.
The Doncaster-based fireman, who began his career with Doncaster junior club Wheatley Hills, made his league debut for Wakefield and had a spell with Rotherham before he moved on to Otley. Last season he became only the third player after wingers Nick Baxter, of Worcester, and Rugby's Eddie Saunders, to score 100 career tries in the Premiership and National Leagues.
Scully, who helped England win the World Cup Sevens in 1993, might have reached the 350-game landmark before now but he has been unavailable for selection for the past two weeks because of his involvement in the Bermuda Classicals tournament.
