Waterloo v Doncaster Knights on Saturday 3.00pm

After last weekend’s tribal battle against fellow promotion chasers Rotherham, this weekend’s encounter for the Knights is on paper rather more straightforward. They travel to Merseyside to take on the bottom club but Clive Griffiths is keen to ensure there is no lessening of focus and intensity.

Waterloo have managed just the two wins all season, a shock home victory early on against Cornish Pirates and a shock away win at Exeter; but they leak an average over 40 points a game against them at home and the Knights have a clear five point target for the weekend and a tenth successive victory. Eyes will also be on Clifton Lane where a Titans win over Leeds could leave the Knights at the top of the table going into New Year.

Griffiths is giving Russell Earnshaw a well earned rest this week, but adds Wes Davies (who missed last week with a dead leg) and Dan Storey to the otherwise unchanged 23 man squad who will make the trip to Blundellsands. Weather and pitch conditions could decide the line up best suited to the game plan on the day.

Waterloo are hoping to start with the same side that lost last weekend at Sedgley Park but are also leaving selection until the last minute.

Squad from: Carter, Gollings, Davey, Cannon, Hunt, Davies, Van Vuuren, Woodrow, Jones, Scully, Storey, Bunting, Boden, Rawson, Tau, Phillips, Kenworthy, Gross, D Cook, O Cook, Grainger, Forster, Talei.
