Bedford Blues v Doncaster Knights on Saturday 3.00pm
League leaders Doncaster travel down the A1 this weekend to face a resurgent sixth placed Bedford Blues at Goldington Road in what is undoubtedly a tricky assignment at one of skipper Jason Forster’s former clubs.
After an early season slow start, the Blues have been improving and by all accounts played well in defeat at second placed Plymouth last weekend. On their home pitch with its famous slope they are a hard side to beat, only Rotherham in recent times winning there and that by the tight margin of 32-34 in a titanic encounter.
Clive Griffiths has all of last week’s 22 man squad fit for duty, and adds Ben Jones and Russell Earnshaw for good measure to make a 24 man squad that will travel down on Friday night and have a light work out on Saturday morning before a starting line up is decided. Third placed Leeds host second placed Plymouth on Sunday, making a win at Bedford particularly valuable. Griffiths, though, is keeping everyone’s feet on the ground when he says “the hard work starts here and we are taking each week as it comes. We have a number of hard matches in the weeks ahead: this is just another game on which we will focus and for which we have prepared thoroughly”.
Squad to travel: Carter, Gollings, Davey, Cannon, Van Vuuren, Woodrow, Scully, Bunting, Phillips, Tau, Gross, D Cook, Grainger, Forster, O Cook, Rawson, Boden, Kenworthy, Talei, Storey, Hunt, Davies, Jones, Earnshaw.
Referee: Rob Debney (RFU)
