Bees action last season

Doncaster Knights v Pertemps Bees on Saturday 2.30pm

The Knights return to league action on Saturday when they host Pertemps Bees (or Birmingham & Solihull to give them their correct name). It will be the fourth meeting of the two sides since Doncaster entered National One, and the three previous have all gone Doncaster’s way, in high scoring matches. The earlier game in the Midlands sparked the Knights’ long winning run that saw them lead the table at New Year, when arguably their best performance of the season brought them a 39-13 bonus point win at a time when the Bees were able to call on all their Gloucester loan players.

With six games to go, and four of those at home, Clive Griffiths is intent on a top three finish. He is also intent on trying new combinations and new tactics, starting this weekend. Ben Gollings starts at full back, where he will have room to use his open field pace and skills to counter attack; and Brad Hunt is restored to outside centre to give the back line more cutting edge. In the pack there is a debut for Bryn Griffiths at lock, and Netani Talei will look forward to his afternoon in the back row in a high impact contest with his fellow Fijian international Akapusi Qera, who will be playing for Gloucester next season. Cerith Rees will again feature off the bench.

Knights : B Gollings, P Bailey, B Hunt, J Cannon, D Van Vuuren, M Woodrow, B Jones, S Bunting, B Phillips, N Tau, B Griffiths, L Gross, R Earnshaw, J Forster, N Talei.

Bench : T Davies, S Boden, G Kenworthy, S Grainger, D Storey, C Rees, O Cook.

Referee : N Williams (RFU)
