Knights v Moseley 2.30pm Saturday

It’s Midlands opposition at Castle Park for the second successive Saturday as relegation threatened Moseley are this week’s visitors. They will have been well briefed by their friends at Pertemps Bees, who ended up on the wrong end of some superb Knights’ play last week and conceded 62 points in the process.

Clive Griffiths names the same 22 who did duty last week but makes one change in the starting line up as new arrival Cerith Rees starts at ten, with Mark Woodrow on the bench. Rees came on at half time last week to play an influential role in the demolition of the Bees with some fine movement of the ball off hands and boot. The team selection also gives the other late season signing, Bryn Griffiths, a second start at lock.

After an earlier 22-0 away win at Moseley, the Knights will be confident of completing another double although the Moseley side will contain the experienced New Zealand born fly half Tommy Hayes, who joined them at Xmas after spells at Bristol, Worcester and Glasgow; and the points scoring machine that is Oliver Thomas, one of the country’s best kickers with an 82% record for the season.

Griffiths promises more of the same high tempo rugby that was on display last week, and skipper Jason Forster is certainly set on the Division’s all time try scoring record that stands at 26. He is on 23 after bagging one last Saturday. It should be a high scoring entertaining afternoon at Castle Park.

Moseley are sending two teams North, with the respective "A" teams kicking off at 1.30pm.

Knights: B Gollings, P Bailey, B Hunt, J Cannon, D Van Vuuren, C Rees, B Jones, S Bunting, B Phillips, N Tau, B Griffiths, L Gross, R Earnshaw, J Forster, N Talei.

Bench: T Davies, S Boden, G Kenworthy, S Grainger, D Storey, M Woodrow, O Cook.

Referee: R Phillips (RFU)

NB: there is an excellent preview of the match from the Moseley website on the 1st XV Forum on this site.
