Justin Bishop to join Doncaster Knights
Clive Griffiths has signed the London Irish centre/winger Justin Bishop as his Backs’ Coach and player for next season as the first building block in a plan that is expected to see a full time professional squad at Castle Park next season looking to improve upon this season’s excellent campaign in National One.
Bishop, aged 32 and with 25 full Irish international caps to his name, has been with London Irish since the professional game took hold in England and has made some 280 appearances for them. He was the Irish Post’s Sports Personality of 2006.
His Premiership experience, and his wish to develop as a coach, brings him to Castle Park looking to significantly improve the Knights’ cutting edge – arguably the one aspect of the current campaign where they have been behind the level of the other top sides in National One. He is also very much the type of player that Griffiths is looking towards, as London Irish Director of Rugby Brian Smith said: “Justin personifies what London Irish is all about – loyal, hard working and very talented”. Having already committed his signature to paper, he will join the Knights in good time for their pre season summer programme.
