Germans raid Castle Park on Friday night!
Doncaster Dragons, the veteran’s team at Doncaster RFC, offers the chance for the town’s more mature player (aged 35+) continued participation in the game of rugby union. The Dragons commitment to the Club key phrase “Rugby For All” is positively promoted and any local player with boots, shorts and the inclination to play gets a game.
Current senior President Tony DeMulder created the team as a sub-section of the Castle Park club in the late 1970’s. The initiative was to provide a form of the game where the overriding culture is to have fun, both on and off the playing field. However, this ethos by no means dilutes the competitiveness and quality of rugby displayed by the former Doncaster senior teams’ players turning out regularly on a Saturday afternoon.
The Board at Doncaster RFC are renowned for their progressive approach to professionalism and success, thankfully they also recognise the contribution some of the veterans have had in promoting the Club to the status within the game they now enjoy. Amateur rugby is hugely important to the running of a truly successful rugby club and Doncaster RFC continue to support players of all ages with the continued use of the superb facilities at Castle Park. Anyone interested in playing should contact Dave Thomas on 07828204734.
On Friday 5th October the Dragons will be hosting a touring team from Berlin, Germany. The match kicks off at 7:30pm under floodlights on the main pitch. Please come and support the Doncaster players in the twilight of their rugby careers. Entry is free, food and refreshments will be available. The Arms Park bar will be open from 7pm to 1am with free entertainment and a free buffet after 9pm in what is planned to be a “traditional rugby evening”.
