Having put out a much changed side last weekend at Sedgley Park, Lynn Howells reverts to the tried and tested for Friday evening’s showcase encounter against Plymouth Albion. The match is being televised live on Sky Sports, a first for the club and recognition of Doncaster’s growing standing in the Game.
It won’t be for the feint hearted. Plymouth are always a tough side with a very big pack and backs that can score tries aplenty, including the one man who scored more than Jason Forster last season – French winger Nic Sestaret. The four previous encounters between the clubs have all been close affairs, with the home side always the winner. Albion name former Knight Steve Barretto in their squad, as well as Jannie Bornman who moved south from Rotherham during the summer.
Howells recalls Simon Bunting to the front row after a two week rest, and skipper Glen Wilson resumes at eight. In the backs, Justin Bishop and Brad Hunt return while Saturday’s hat trick scorer Wes Davies gets the nod on one wing ahead of Donavan Van Vuuren.
Kick off at Castle Park is at 7.45pm. The match is preceded by a junior TAG rugby tournament involving teams from Doncaster, Goole, Hull Bulls, Castleford and Sheffield with 7, 8 and 9 year age group finals on the main pitch at half time in the Knights game. Additional overspill car parking on the night for the expected large crowd has been arranged at Danum School.
