John Cannon leaves Doncaster Knights

It is with considerable regret that we have to announce that the Club and John Cannon have mutually agreed to cancel John’s contract due to on going medical issues, following a severe concussion sustained in pre season training.

John, capped 28 times by Canada when he joined the Knights in September 2005, quickly became a great favourite at Castle Park and was recognised as one of the best centres outside the Premiership.

John said:

“It is with great sadness that due to my recent head injury I will be leaving the Doncaster Knights. After discussions with various specialists, it was concluded that my personal health would be at risk if I continued playing rugby at this time. While it is difficult to leave something I love in such a manner, it is also an exciting prospect to see what life after rugby has to offer. I would like to thank both players and fans for their support during my time in Doncaster. Although I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to help on the field, I will follow closely from abroad, wishing and hoping the best for this up-and-coming rugby club.”

John is returning to his native Canada to recover, refocus and decide on his future career.

In a related move, the Knights have extended the short term cover contract of Tom Luke to run for the rest of the season.
