Knights sign Lisiate Fa’aoso
Doncaster Knights have moved to cover the recall of Sean Tomes to Newcastle Falcons, and the continuing absence of the injured Luke Gross, by signing the Tongan lock forward Lisiate Fa’aoso.
He has made eight full international appearances for Tonga, including two in the Rugby World Cup this summer in the games against USA and England. He has also been capped at “A” and Under 21 levels.
The 24 year old stands 1m97cm and weighs in at 113kg. He has a reputation as a tough physical lock who can also play at six, a versatility that enhances his appeal to the Knights who now have three Tongans in their squad.
His playing experience to date has been with South Canterbury and Manawatu in New Zealand domestic rugby; and for The Hurricanes in the Super 14s.
After catching the eye in France, where one broadcaster included him as reserve lock in their World Cup Dream Team behind Fabian Pelous and Donncha O’Callaghan, he was keen to return to Europe and the opportunity to play at the top of National One in a team that already includes two of his countrymen appealed to him.
