The Demons won the toss and chose to play against the wind for the first half of the match. They started off in their usual style; struggling to get the home flame burning and let in a try in within the first five minutes. The Demons were holding their own and it seemed that for a while at least they might be able to hold off Morpeth’s assaults. However, it was not to be and the Demons couldn’t beat the speed of the Morpeth backs, who shipped it out quickly to score with a run away try. As the game continued it became clear that the forwards were having far more success in the scrummages: driving back the Morpeth pack easily. As the Demons tired against the wind, the Morpeth girls continued to ship the ball out wide with the Demons having no answer to yet another runaway try. At this point the Demons were struggling but battled on as Morpeth continued the ship out wide scoring a couple more tries however, Ash did battle against her injury to take one of the players down; unfortunately the pass out to the wing resulted in a try. The Demons battled back, unfortunately the wind meant their normally successful lineouts were fraught with problems, this said the Demons picked up at number 8 and battled close to the lineout before the ball was turned over.
The second half started as the Demons went to go on; with effort unfortunately a little too much fire in Psycho’s belly when she kicked off straight over the dead ball line and the Demons were forced back to the half way line to start. The Demons really seemed to be focused and were making ground easily especially as Morpeth continually gave away penalties for handling on the floor. The Demons were constantly inside Morpeth 22 and Tigger attempted a pick up from number 8, she was not successful despite some fantastic rucking by the Demons, and was held up over the line. After the five yard scrummage the Demons powered towards the line with Gabby taking the ball over for her second score of the season. This was closely followed by Tigger’s second score in 2 games as she powered over from a well timed pass from Jenny from a maul. Both tries were converted by Psycho. The Demons defended fiercely close to their line on many occasions and Jenny managed to hold up a potential try by Morpeth. However, the Demons couldn’t hold off the Morpeth girls who touched down twice and converted. The Demons were pushing back but were unfortunately denied another scored by the full time whistle.
