The Knights Academy came away comfortable winners in a very physical
U19 game at a windy Castle Park, to progress to the Quarter finals of
the Yorkshire Cup.
Doncaster tried to play some expansive rugby but the wind and some firm Otley defense made it difficult. Poor ball retention also proved
to be a big problem. Despite this the Knights went in at Half time 5-0 up after an
excellent catch and drive from a line out, which resulted in blind-
side flanker Jack Makepeace scoring.
The second half was very similar to the first half in the way the
game was played with the Knights squandering two or three try scoring
opportunities. Otley deserve massive credit for their physical
approach and quality back line and broke the Knights defence to score
a try soon after the Knights had scored their second try again
through a driving line out through Tom Doughty. Mark Steadman converted.
The Knights closed the game out soon after with a third try from
their excellent driving line out through Prop Lewis Thiede.
It was not a vintage performance from the Knights Academy but a very
good win against a very creditable Otley team.
