DRFC DRAGONS 48 –v- 10 HARROGATE VETS

The Dragons bandwagon gathers momentum, registering the 12th consecutive victory of this seasons campaign over our old adversaries from North of the County, Harrogate.

With the Skipper’s latest signing during the January transfer window, Matt Brain, unavailable due to family commitments (a explicit ‘No you cannot play’ from his E.P.O*), the esteemed leader still had plenty to consider in relation to selection as 25 players were available and willing to die for the cause. These fine individuals also included Sgt Conway, who despite having played at the Club for close to 20 years, still has to put the postcode in his Sat Nav.

With no referee available, Mr Thomas dutifully stepped up to the plate, a with a word of warning ringing in Dave Millar’s ears, a vigorous warm up commenced.

As is customary, the forwards managed the princely sum of two lineouts, both of which ended up a complete mess, and the backs minced about, smoking fags and holding general conversation about nothing in particular.

The Dragons fly half Millar kicked off into the face of a firm breeze, and with a sign of things to come, the flight of the ball was akin to a wounded duck. The Dragons more robust pack of forwards were immediately on the offensive, creating a platform for Millar to orchestrate the backs. Fine interlinking play led to scores in the first half from Millar, Conway, Mallinder, Ellis x 2, but the highlight of the half was that rare sight of a try by Wilson, resplendent in his nipple warming shorts and Calvin Klein athletic support, more commonly referred to as a ‘thong’. Millar also attempted to hurtle the ball with tremendous velocity directly in to the mouth of Storey from about 2 yards, with a degree of success. With the addition of 2 conversions from Millar and one from the marauding Ramsay, the half time score was 36-0 to the Dragons.

With a profusion of replacements, the continuity and dominance established in the first half was somewhat absent during the second period, but further scores from Prydderch and Tommy ‘Peter Pan’ Curzon increased the score. Harrogate did reply with three tries, but the final score of 48-19 was an accurate reflection upon the game.

After the game, the Couplands Manager/Captain of the Month award was presented to Dave Thomas for all his efforts. Upon receiving his Pewter Tankard Mr Thomas was quoted as saying, “I don't deserve this award, but I have arthritis and
I don't deserve that either.”
