Plymouth Albion 25 Sedgley Park 19


Albion: Tries: Fisilau (50), Davies (64), Denbee (73). Cons: Davies 2. Pens: Davies 2 (5, 40). 


Park: Tries: Townson (21), Briers (37), Burrell (40). Cons: Jones 2.  


Sedgley Park put up a good performance at Brickfields and nearly picked up the win which would have given them some breathing space over second bottom Pertemps Bees.  


Brad Davies put the home side ahead on five minutes with a penalty goal but the visitors responded with three unanswered tries from second row Glen Townson, wing Chris Briers and centre Luther Burrell and Phil Jones added a couple of conversions for 19-3. Late in the half Davies put over a second penalty goal to make it 19-6 at half time.


Seven minutes into the second half Albion were over for their first try of the game with centre Keni Fisilau touching down and Davies converted.   


Just after the hour mark Albion were over for a second try as Davies touched down and converted to give the home side a one point lead.


The score which settled the match came form Albion on 73 minutes as replacement back row forward Mike Denbee went over but the conversion was missed and Park left with a losing bonus point.


 


Esher 21 Pertemps Bees 17


Blues: Tries: Armitage (3), Hallett (36), Cormack (39). Cons: Hallett 3.


Blues: Tries: Spee (8), Aston (20), Mitchell (43). Con: P Knight.


Esher pick up their 10th win of the season and close to within two points of London Welsh in ninth place.


It took Esher just three minutes for the games opening try as centre Bevon Armitage went over and Neil Hallett converted. Five minutes later and the Bees were level as full back Reece Spee went over and Paul Knight converted. The visitors went ahead in the 20th minute when winger James Aston went over the Esher line for a 12-7 lead.


Two tries late in the half saw Esher take control with Hallett and prop Duncan Cormack touching down and Hallett converted them both for a 21-12 half time lead.  Three minutes into the second half it was game on again as replacement back Cameron Mitchell went over and it was a four point game. That though was the end of the scoring and the Bees had to settle for a losing bonus point with the last 37 minutes pointless.


 


Northampton Saints 18 Exeter Chiefs 8

Northampton Saints took the National One title on Saturday in front of a 13,498 crowd at Franklin’s Gardens although they were give a run for their money before sealing the win on 78 minutes with a penalty goal form Bruce Reihana.


The Saints were ahead on 14 minutes when the home hooker Dylan Hartley went over for a try and a 5-0 lead.


On 22 minutes it was all square as hooker Simon Jenkins went over the home try line for 5 all.


But with Hartley completing a double and winger Paul Diggin running in his 15th try of the season and it was 15-5 after the first 40 minutes but in injury time Tony Yapp put over a penalty goal to get them within a score of the home side.


In the second half the only score was Reihana’s late penalty goal having missed his previous two.     


 


Moseley 5 Bedford Blues 43


Moseley: Try: Stenhouse (24)


Blues: Tries: Richmond (9), Dodge 2 (19, 58), Pritchard (37), Roberts 2 (47, 75), Pienaar (65). Cons: Pritchard 4. 


Bedford Blues pick up their 16th win of the season as they do the double over Moseley.


The Blues were over for the first try on nine minutes when hooker Dan Richmond touched down and ten minutes later they doubled their lead as winger Ollie Hodge went over for 10-0. The home side pulled five points back on 24 minutes when fly half Neil Stenhouse touched down. The visitors got a try late in the half as James Pritchard went over and converted for a 17-5 half time lead.


They ran in four unanswered tries in the second half as Dodge completed a double and centre Liam Roberts ran in a double and flanker Ben Pienaar go the other try as they took all five points on offer and Moseley’s poor home form continued.


      


London Welsh 25 Rotherham Titans 26


Welsh: Tries: Chilten 2 (34, 56). Pens: Jones 5 (10, 25, 32, 47, 70).


Titans: Tries: Feeley (19), Claassens (40), Lawson (52), Cochrane (72). Cons: Whitehead 3.


Rotherham pick up a surprise win at London Welsh and join 10th placed Esher on 49 points after taking the try bonus point.


Matt Jones kicked the Welsh ahead with a 10th minute penalty goal Bit the Titans took the lead when winger Jon Feeley went over for the games opening try on 19 minutes. Jones kicked a couple of penalties to take the Welsh 9-5 ahead before a 34th minute try from scrum half Allan Chiltern made it 14-5 after 34 minutes. Late in the half Rotherham got a second try as left wing Errie Claassens went over and this time former London Welsh player Mike Whitehead converted to make it a two point game at half time.


Jones kicked a fourth penalty early in the second half before a try from centre Mark Lawson took the visitors ahead as Whitehead converted for 19-17.


Back came the Welsh and Chiltern got a second try and Jones kicked a fifth penalty goal to make it 25-19 after 70 minutes.


The winning score came from flanker Neil Cochrane two minutes later and Whitehead converted for the winning points.     


 


Newbury 7 Coventry 7


Blues: Try: Brown (42). Con: Walsh.  


Cov: Try: Dorrian (46). Con: McLean.


It ended all square at Monks Lane in a low scoring match in which the first half was scoreless.


The first try of the day came on 42 minutes when No 8 Tom Brown went over the Coventry line and Tim Walsh converted. Four minutes later it was all square as fly half Myles Dorrian went over the home line and Rory McLean converted.


That was the end of the scoring as the final 34 minutes remained scoreless.


 


Nottingham 26 Cornish All Blacks 12


Nott: Tries: Duffey 2 (40, 42), Morley (74), Smith (80). Cons: Jackson 3. 


CAB: Pens: Fabian 4 (16, 40, 44, 77)


Nottingham took all five points after this home win over bottom of the table Cornish All Blacks and join Exeter Chiefs on 101 points but remain third with Exeter having won more matches.


Full back Jon Fabian kicked the visitors into a 6-0 lead but in injury time Nottingham went ahead after hooker Joe Duffey went over and David Jackson converted to lead 7-6 at half time.


Fabian kicked the visitors back in front four minutes into the second half but on 52 minutes the home side were over for a second try as Duffey completed a double for 12-9.


It took till the 74th minute for Nottingham to move further ahead with replacement second row lee Morley going over and Jackson converted to give them a 17-9 lead.


Fabian got them back within losing bonus point territory but an injury time try from centre Matt Smith gave Nottingham all five points and denied the All Blacks a losing bonus point.


That defeat leaves them four points behind Pertemps Bees and more importantly nine points behind third bottom Sedgley Park.   


 


Cornish Pirates 63 Doncaster 36


Pirates: Tries: Cowley (20), Senekal (30), Devlin (49), Moore 2 (51, 73), Seal (56), Lilo 2 (58, 69). Cons: Steenson 6. Pen: Steenson (36). DG: Steenson (66).


Doncaster: Tries: Van Vuuren (4), Griffiths (45), Boden (63), Toke (76). Cons: Woodrow 2. Pens: Woodrow 4 (2, 24, 34, 40).


High scoring game which saw the Pirates move above Doncaster in the table after taking all five points running in nine tries and Gareth Steenson added 18 points with the boot. Doncaster did leave with a point after picking up their 11th try bonus point of the season.


It was Doncaster who got the better start with an 8-0 lead after four minutes with Mark Woodrow putting over a penalty goal and winger Donovan Van Vuuren going over for a try, his 12th of the season.


It took the Pirates till the 20th minutes to get on the scoreboard and then they average just over a point a minute with 63 points in 60 minutes. Their first score came from captain and No 8 Tim Cowley, four minute later Woodrow kicked a second penalty for the visitors but on the half hour mark the home side took the lead.


Second row Heino Senekal went over and this time Gareth Steenson converted. Butt it was Doncaster who led at the break as Woodrow kicked two more penalties, with Steenson kicking one for the home side, to lead 17-15.


Five minutes into the second half and Doncaster were further ahead as flanker Bryn Griffiths went over and Woodrow converted for 24-15. By the end of the third quarter the Pirates head turned it round with four unanswered tries to take a 41-24 lead and secure the try bonus point.


Doncaster got a third try from hooker Steve Boden but two more tries took the home side passed the 50 point mark with winger James Moore and Vunga Lilo completing doubles. Doncaster claimed a try bonus point on 76 minutes when prop Tomia Toke went over but Steenson had the final say as he got the final try and took his haul for the afternoon to 23 points.
