Donny

First Knight

Sunday was a proud day for Doncaster Knights, as Donny the White Knight defeated all challenges at the Wetherby Gold Cup to come away with the Knight’s first Silverware of the season.

Sunday the 27th will be a day to live long in the tales of conquest, as Donny entered the parade thing as the third mascot in but hung on to be the last Mascot standing.

After disappointment in the earlier race, due to a controversial handicap rated on boot size Donny managed to be the last mascot standing to claim the Cup for the best Mascot. It being the White Knight’s first visit to the Gold Cup competition, and being up against some seasoned Mascot campaigners made the victory all the more impressive.

Donny’s Manager told us. “He never went out to win, Donny just went out to be himself and try to made the crowd and the event as happy as possible. Donny has always been the happiest Knight in town, and now he is a cup winning legend”.

Director of rugby Lynn Howells discussed Donny’s contract situation.. “Donny has been a consistent performer , and I’m hoping his new found status doesn’t make contract negotiation harder for next season. He really is an essential part of our team”.

Donny now intends to kick back, and enjoy the summer with a few public appearances and time out to polish the Trophy which will hopefully reside in the trophy cabinet, alongside the 2008 Yorkshire Cup the Knights compete for Wednesday evening against Wharfedale.
