Doncaster Schools Tag Rugby Finals.

“This is a very exciting time for Rachel Campion and Myself” Knights Rugby Development Officer Ali Wood told us about this Tournament “This is a culmination of all our work in 50 Schools starting in September, so it is no small project.”.

The 13th of June will see all the work carried out by the pair in schools since September come to its final point, that is until the winners are invited to represent Doncaster in a South Yorkshire Tournament. Rachel and Ali work with Primary Schools in Doncaster coaching throughout the year, just as Doncaster Rugby League coaches do. This Tournament brings together the Schools coached by both codes into one big summer competition at Castle Park, an event the Knights are proud to host.

The Knights DIRECT Charity and the Dons Lakeside Community Foundation are proud to work together to improve the health and fitness of children in the borough.

Already there have been Pyramid finals, The Pyramid being the groups of Primary Schools that feed into a Secondary School. So far the winners from the Pyramids coached by the Knights are:

Willow (Hallcross), Warmsworth (Edlington), Montague (Mexborough), Balby Street (Northcliffe), Kirk Sandall (Hunger Hill), Plover (Danum), Our Lady of Mount Carmel (McAuley) and Pheasant Bank (Rossington).

Still to be completed are the regional tournaments Hatfield, Thorne and Hayfield. The interesting fact about Thorne and Hatfield Pyramids are that they are the “Dual Code Coached” Pyramids, meaning both the Knights and the Dons coach in these areas so much interest is being to put into whose School’s qualify.

For the 13th June competition schools competing on the day will be asked to bring a squad of 10 players, having at least boys and 3 girls on the pitch at any one time. This keeps within the framework

This ties in with the competition framework for the RFU with Children at this age level.
