After his try scoring appearance for the Knights in the Yorkshire cup victory over regular bridesmaids Wharfedale Scott Plevey may have though his season had peaked. A try in a game that brings home a trophy is always something for the memoirs.
Tonight I’m writing a rare “personal” article, because tomorrow I’ll be sat watching Scott Plevey step out at Twickenham to represent Yorkshire while the combat for the Bill Beaumont Cup live on SKY Sports. With a 11.45 am start I suggest anyone who has the chance does the same, and cheer on their county and a player who’s heart will always remain at Castle Park.
I had a telephone conversation with Scott earlier, to wish him luck for the game and congratulate him on the achievement and he gave this open admission. “Tomorrow I’ll be representing Yorkshire and Doncaster Knights. I may not be a first team player next season, but as far as I’m concerned I’m going out tomorrow to represent Doncaster one last time in Yorkshire shirt.”
I think that in a way it sums up the man’s attitude to the game and the club, and probably more importantly the fans. Despite stepping out at Twickenham tomorrow his first thought was to get a message over to the Doncaster Fans that he would be proud to have their support even from home as he goes up against Devon. I can remember watching Scott limp off against Cleckheaton in an earlier round of the Yorkshire Cup, having gone over nastily on his leg and yet his main thought was to give encouragement to the team. From his upcoming appearance on ”Mary Queen of Shops” as a fashion model (as a favour to me ) to his try scoring in the final and now an appearance in a final at Twickenham Scott has had an interesting season as always.
As well as wishing Scott well as a club, I’d like to add my own personal best wishes tomorrow to a player I have the ultimate respect for.
Play well Scott, you make a better forward than a model.
Martin.
