Aled

The hardest week of all pre season is finally drawing to a close, and the Knights team have all lived through it which is a positive.

27 year Aled Walters is implementing his first pre season training regime since his move from Scarlets to Doncaster and we wanted to ask his verdict today on the lad’s fitness.

“ It’s no different to what I expect really everyone pre season” The young Welshman told us “some players work hard and some over indulge, its always a mixed bag”

“My aim is to create a pre season plan players can understand, I like them to know why they are pushing themselves and for what effect” He carried on “My door is always open to answer questions about the regimes, education is as important as exercise in my view”.

The week was structured in the following way.

Monday : Speed and Fitness tests at the Sheffield Institute of Sports Science.

Tuesday : Strength tests and training

Wednesday : Running Track Work

Thursday : Day Off

Friday : Speed work on the track, weights and summary advice.

“There are a few players doing extra training to work off summer living, but we have come back early enough and have adapted plans to suit everybody’s needs”.

When to pushed to comment about individual players, Aled gave us this answer.

“I train a squad, my aim is to produce a group of players with the tools to play whatever tactical game Lynn Howells and Justin Bishop need. Whether it be slow rugby in the dark February days or a quick expansive game.”
