Every team looks to add a different dimension to wing play, and new Knights signing Andy Wright looks a player to mix things up down the right hand side this season.
22 year old right winger Andy stands an impressive 6’ 3”, and the mix of his impressive pace and footwork has caught the eye of many scouts. Currently finishing his studies at Loughborough University the former Exeter Chiefs junior is looking forward to a stab at the full time game. Having been scouted for Saracens he had a season playing A League Rugby for the Premiership team than ended in disaster. “ I was unlucky enough to be out with Glandular fever for 4 months in my time at Saracens, which was heartbreaking” Wright confided “ but I consoled myself by scoring 27 tries for Loughborough first team in what time I had left in that season”.
Andy almost signed contracts twice before with National League One clubs Exeter and Rotherham.
“I went to Rotherham Titans last pre season, but couldn’t get on with the setup there” Wright told us. “Doncaster seems so much more organised and professional when I came here I knew this was a club I could feel comfortable at”.
Wright was recommended to Justin Bishop by England U20’s coach Mapletoft due to their London Irish connections, and after the formalities became a full time member of the Knights squad this week. Having played for England Students and England Universities Andy has a reputation as “one to watch” within rugby circles and is proud to be given a chance by Lynn Howells.
“What I want is a chance to develop my attacking game even further, by fighting my way into the Knights first team” was the firm statement by the young winger “ I’ve got the pace and the strength, but feel I can develop my skill level working under Lynn Howells to become a better all round player”.
