This year we at DRFC are trying a new concept for the Dragons in the form of a charity golf day, with Bluebell Wood Hospice being the beneficiaries. We would like to invite anyone associated with Doncaster Rugby Club to participate and support the day. Anyone can enter the competition regardless of handicap (or lack of one). You can even come along as a caddy if swinging golf clubs is not for you. The whole point of the day is to have a good time, play some golf and hopefully make some money for a worthwhile cause.
The Charity Golf Day will be held at Styrrup Hall Golf and Country Club near Bawtry on Friday 1st August. The course will be closed for our sole use.
The competition is a four man team event. The best two scores will count on each hole, scoring using the Stableford format (for you non-golfers, this will be explained fully on the day). All four scores will be counted on the 9th and the 18th holes. There will be a maximum 24 full handicap. The team that scores the highest points will be the winner.
The competition runs roughly as follows:
We will be meeting in the bar/restaurant for coffee or tea and a bacon sandwich prior to play from 9.00am onwards.
For those of us who want/need the practice, a basket of balls will be supplied as part of the package to be used on the driving range prior to teeing off.
First team away will be at 10.30am and thereafter at 8 minute intervals.
There will be a gazebo half way around so that you can have lights refreshments and snacks (or maybe even something a little stronger).
Please note there is a strict course dress code of golf shoes, trousers (not, tracksuits, jeans or ¾ length trousers) and a collared tee shirt.
For the presentation of prizes after the round of golf, we will be wearing No. 1’s (shirt and tie).
Changing rooms and showers are available so that you can change and freshen up after your round, when you will be directed to the banqueting room that has its own private bar. The tables will be set up to seat eight where following the presentations a four course dinner will be served. (See menu below for details)
There will be prizes for:
- Teams finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
- Nearest the pin competition on holes 10 and 13.
- Longest drive on hole 4.
- Team finishing last.
The cost for the day is only £37.50 per head. If you have friends, colleagues or business associates who like a game of golf please feel free to invite them to enter a team because the more teams that we get to participate the better the day will be. If you would like to play but can’t find enough people to enter a 4 man team please let us know and we will make teams up from individuals.
Sponsorship
In addition to entering a team, each hole is available for sponsorship. A company or individual has the opportunity to have their company name and logo displayed on a large sign placed in a prominent position upon the tee. (Signs printed free of charge) The event will be publicised on the DRFC web site and in various local publications. Sponsors can be assured of positive exposure.
The cost of sponsorship is unlimited and open entirely to the discretion of the company willing to help, however we are pitching in the region of £100.
If you would like to enter and have a really enjoyable day whilst doing your bit for charity, please contact either Howard Potts (07882935696), Bob Christie (07740835366) or Dave Thomas (07828204734) to discuss your needs.
