TONGAN INTERNATIONAL FORWARD JOSH AFU JOINS THE KNIGHTS
Doncaster Knights Director of Rugby Lynn Howell has completed his squad for the 2008/2009 season with the signing of Tongan International lock Josh Afu. He made his debut for Tonga in last summer’s Pacific Nations Cup along with our own Toma Toke and Hudson Tonga’uiha. We have recently obtained a work permit for him and he is expected in the UK this weekend, hopefully joining the squad in London for the London Welsh game. If all goes well, he will be playing for the Knights “A” XV this Monday at home against Worcester ko 7.30pm
Josh was actually born in Brisbane and is 21 years old. He stand 6’ 4” tall and weighs 17 stone and is extremely athletic. Josh is a product of Brisbane State High and has represented Australia at Schoolboy and under 19 level. Blessed with size, speed and strength, he gained a contract with the Queensland Reds Super 14 Franchise for whom he appeared as a back row forward and thus gives the Knights extra cover in all back five positions. He was selected for Tonga through his father and, in doing so, forfeited a place in the Australian 7s squad and the Queensland Reds squad.
Doncaster Knights now have a trio of current Tongan Internationals in their squad, as well as Tongan International legend Ngalu Tau who is instrumental in bringing such players into the English game
