During early Summer Doncaster Knights teamed up with TESCO distribution, culminating in several of the Knights forwards attempting to pull a laden TESCO heavy goods vehicles the Middlebank Sports and Social summer fun day, raising money for Marie Curie along the way.
Simon Grainger and Co were successful in heaving several tons of HGV to the delight of the TESCO staff in attendance, and afterwards TESCO Distribution General Manager Andy Roper hit on an idea that would TESCO and the Knights teaming up again.
The successful Summer Camp programme at Castle Park is based on lots of healthy activity for local children, and TESCO Distribution offered to make it an even healthier programme by donating fruit for healthy snacks for all children taking part.
“ Having met the players and staff, and listening to the good work the Knights charity DIRECT do with programmes such as Tackle Health it seemed a common sense way for us to get involved”.
As the Summer programme rolled on, the unpredictable nature of the donation was a source of delight for children. Some of the fruits were of exotic origins giving the children new experiences and a chance to try certain fruits for the first time in some cases.
“It was one of the most fun partnerships we have had with DIRECT” Knights Community manager Ali Wood was quoted as saying. “Not knowing what fruits would be arriving during the day heightened the excitement, and gave us extra things to talk about over snacks”.
Further partnerships with the Knights and TESCO Distribution are in discussion, and the children that benefit will surely be hoping the next one will be just as interesting, and as tasty.
