NEW SIGNING JOSH AFU STARTS FOR KNIGHTS IN HOME GAME AGAINST COVENTRY ON SATURDAY
For their match against 10th placed Coventry at Castle Park on Saturday, 5th placed Doncaster Knights Director of Rugby rings the changes due, in part, to injuries to Justin Bishop, Chris Planchant and Adam Kettle sustained in last Sunday’s game at.
The Knight’s team is:
15 Carter
14 Davies W
13 Tonga’uiha
12 Armitage
11 Van Vuuren
10 Lennard
9 Hallam
1 List
2 Boden
3 Cusack
4 Smith
5 Kenworthy
6 Griffiths
7 Cochrane
8 Afu
16 Davies T
17 Toke
18 Ta’u
19 Grainger
20 Albinson
21 Warnock
22 Hughes G
In the backs, Wes Davies, Donavon Van Vuuren and Bevon Armitage replace Chris Hughes, Steve McColl and Bishop respectively after impressing in last Monday’s “A” 44 points to 3 victory away at Nottingham. In addition Jamie Lennard starts in place of Ali Warnock. In the pack, Michael Cusack replaces Ngalu Ta’u, Dan Smith (another to impress last Monday) comes in at lock to allow Bryn Griffiths to move to flanker and Neil Cochrane replaces Simon Grainger at openside. The other change sees the selection of Queensland Red and Tongan international Josh Afu at No 8 who only arrived in England last Sunday morning yet still managed to look good in the half he played on Monday evening.
Although Coventry are five places lower than Doncaster’s in the league, their record of 3 wins out of 6 is not a lot worse than Knights who have won 4 out of 6. Included in the Coventry line up we have been sent is 6’ 9” lock Carl Burgess who had a short trial with us in the summer and Lol Sanderson who previously had a number of games in our “A” XV at prop. Although most pundits are predicting a win for the home side, they seem to have overlooked the fact that Doncaster lost at home to Coventry last season by 25 points to 17 after the Knights won at Coventry by 40 points to 13 in the opening game of the season. I suspect that the Knights could be smarting after the criticism they have come in for, both publicly and privately, over the past week and will be looking to move on with a good victory..
