Rugby Club Community Programme expands further
The community programme at Doncaster Rugby Club (DRFC) continues to gather momentum with the support of Hesley Group, IFI and Sportsmatch.
In addition to the regular sponsors, the programme has a new supporter. The Doncaster Children’s Fund is a local charity who supported a half term camp at Castle Park last week. 30 children each day were invited from 5 primary schools across Doncaster to be coached by the Club’s stars. The children enjoyed a full day of rugby based activities at the Club which included a consultation on development of our match day facilities and entertainment for young people. Welsh U21 and 7’s star Llyr Lane commented ‘It’s great for the kids to get a chance to play at the same facility and in the same environment as the senior squad.’
Llyr and Jonny Roddam have been part of the coaching team for the week and have enjoyed the enthusiasm and commitment from the young people. Tom Ryder commented that, ‘Many of the children may not want to play rugby regularly as a hobby but the experience may provide local clubs with additional players but in addition to this it continues to raise the profile of the game within Doncaster’
Normal duties resume for the community team after the ½ term break with coaching in 15 schools in Armthorpe, Retford and Macauly pyramids in addition to the sessions in two Hatfield schools where the DRFC community team are supporting a Thornensians Rugby Club Junior section recruitment drive.
