Doncaster v Netherlands on Saturday 2.30pm

Doncaster play their first match against an international side when the Dutch fly in on Saturday. Facilitated by the daily flights from Doncaster Airport to and from Amsterdam, and set up through personal contacts established with Dutch players at last summer’s Amsterdam Sevens and Stockholm tens competitions, this match is one of two the Dutch are playing this month (the other against Treviso in Italy the following week) as their build up to key World Cup 2007 qualifying matches later this month.

The Dutch are favourites to qualify out of the European Zone pool that contains Andorra, Moldova, Spain and Poland. There is a strong and growing club rugby scene in Holland with an international influence in both playing and coaching staff. Three years’ residence under International Board rules qualifies anyone to play for an adopted country. It is understood that the Dutch standard is equivalent to the middle of National One in England so a competitive game is in prospect.

Doncaster are using the game to rest key players carrying knocks from the recent league campaign, and to take a close look at four young players with promising futures. Yorkshire Under 20 players Dan Storey and Tom Davies will start at full back and prop respectively; and ex Colts Craig Deakin and Andrew Poskitt at wing and flanker. The game also gives centre Brad Hunt a second match back after a four month injury absence, and a first start back to Charlie Harrison after two appearances off the bench after his long absence with a broken foot. The starting line up will be:

Doncaster

D Storey, O Cook, D Murray, B Hunt, C Deakin, J Benson, C Harrison, T Davies, J Roddam, S Barretto, J Rule, E Norris, R Peacey, A Poskitt, D Montagu.

Referee: M Wilson (RFU)

Season ticket holders will be charged a concessionary rate of just £5 on the gate on production of their ticket wallet..
