Rob Liley in action

Doncaster v Nottingham on Saturday 2.30pm

Liley Landmark approaches

With a perfect sense of timing, Doncaster skipper Rob Liley closes in on a remarkable statistical double this weekend. He needs just 2 points to reach the 1000 mark for Doncaster, and just 13 points to hit the 2000 mark in a 13 season league career that has included spells at Wakefield, Sale, Leicester, Harlequins and Doncaster.

His four season spell at Castle Park has been the most prolific of his career and he should become only the seventh player ever to reach the 1000 point mark for one National League club when his first score goes on the board against Nottingham this Saturday. The statistical interest will add spice to what should be a tough match for Doncaster who are unbeaten at Castle Park since losing to Harlequins on 12th February. Visitors Nottingham lie in seventh place in the table and have been a jinx side as far as Doncaster are concerned – in the five previous league meetings the Greens have come out on top, including a 12-0 win earlier in the season on a wet and miserable Friday night at Ireland Avenue. Doncaster did do the double over them in the 1893/94 season (103 years ago!), and won away in the Cup in 1997/98, so it is surely our turn once again!!

Nottingham are at strength but Doncaster are without both first choice centres. John Cannon remains unfit suffering headaches after being concussed against Rotherham; and top try scorer Mike Wood’s season ended early last weekend when he ruptured a tendon in his right hand. Brad Hunt and Duncan Murray pair up for the first time.

For three of Doncaster’s starting line up this will be their last home game at Castle Park. Rob Liley retires next weekend after the last game of the season at Pertemps Bees: Charlie Harrison is relocating south to a new teaching job; and Dan Montagu has already signed a full time professional contract for Nottingham next season – he will be keen to show his new employers what he is capable of!
