Jason Forster signs as player/forwards coach.....

Doncaster Rugby Club is delighted to announce the signing of the Newport Gwent Dragons’ captain Jason Forster in a deal that sees him join forces with Clive Griffiths at Castle Park where he will also become the forwards coach.

Jason has captained the Welsh regional side for the past two seasons where he plays open side flanker with a reputation as a fearless tackler and the cutting edge of the side. He previously played for Bridgend, Bedford (in their promotion winning side) and Newport before the Dragons; and he played for Wales A and Wales Sevens as well as winning one full cap against Argentina two years ago. He is the top try scorer ever in the Celtic League with 24 in his 73 matches, 9 of which were scored this past season.

Recently turned 35, Jason was not offered the playing and coaching contract by the Dragons that he wanted in order to start a coaching career and has therefore elected to make the move with Clive Griffiths to Doncaster where they form an exciting partnership.

Forster is also joining up with the Barbarians this month for their game in Scotland and their tour to Georgia. He has previously played twice for the Ba-Bas.

Dragons’ coach Paul Turner commented: "It's disappointing and sad we couldn't agree terms, but now is probably the time for both parties to move on. I do understand his ambition to get on the coaching ladder, having been in England for 13 years it's a good avenue to learn your trade in. I'd personally like to thank Jason for his massive contribution first with Newport and more latterly with the Dragons. We'll miss his leadership and cutting edge, but we wish him all the best."

Doncaster Chief Executive John Lowe said that “ this is the biggest signing in the Club’s history. Jason is current Premiership and European Cup standard as a player and has recently become the top try scorer in the history of the Celtic League. His arrival at Castle Park confirms our intent to be a serious contender in National One”.

Welcoming Fozzie (as he is known) Clive Griffiths said “I am delighted that a player of his ability and stature within the Game is now a part of Doncaster rugby. He has been a born leader of men throughout his career and I know he is relishing the challenge ahead both as a player and as forwards’ coach”.
