.........Paul Bailey (Saracens) and Spencer Davey (Bath) latest recruits in the backs..........
....Clive Griffiths has signed two top class backs with Premiership and England age group experience - 23 year old Spencer Davey from Bath, and 24 year old Paul Bailey from Saracens.
Paul Bailey, at 1.82m and 80kg, is an outside centre or wing who has always played for Saracens, graduating from their Academy structure to spend the last three seasons in their senior squad where he made 60 Premiership appearances, including 14 last season. He was capped at England Under 19 level and arrives at Castle Park with a reputation for tremendous speed and acceleration. He had planned a move to France but has instead been attracted to Castle Park “by the appointment of Griffiths and the chance to make an impact in an obviously fast developing club.”
Spencer Davey, at 1.85m and 96kg, is a strong running, powerful centre with a solid defence. Capped for England at Under 19 and 21 he has been at Bath for five seasons and made 26 Premiership appearances. For the second half of last season he was on loan to Glasgow Warriors in the Celtic League to regain fitness after an injury sustained in a Heineken Cup match against Italian side Treviso. Now fully fit and raring to go he “looks forward to a new start in a club with first class facilities and an ambitious outlook”
Clive Griffiths said that “these are two really big signings who will add considerably to the squad of backs at Castle Park and who will quickly become crowd favourites. It is a sign of the credibility of what we are setting out to achieve here that two guys of their background should want to come to Doncaster. We needed more cover in these positions and I now feel we have the backs we need to make a real difference at this level.”
