David Scully

David Scully joins Doncaster Knights.........

Doncaster Knights are pleased to announce that David Scully has joined the club.

The 41 year old was described by Clive Griffiths as the Teddy Sherringham of rugby. “He is one of the fittest guys in the Game” said Griffiths “and he has experience of the Game that will be of great value to us. Our two scrum halves, Ben Jones and Dan Storey, are both youngsters who will benefit greatly from Dave’s presence in the squad. He knows that he will have to fight for his place in the team but there will be difficult games ahead where his experience will be important to us. He is also a Level 2 RFU qualified coach who can offer the squad more than just as a player.”

Surprisingly released by Otley at the end of last season, where he had been a leading light for three seasons, Scully previously played five seasons at Rotherham after eleven at his first senior club, Wakefield. He lives in Doncaster where he is a fire fighter, and where he began his rugby at local club Wheatley Hills. He had planned to play for Huddersfield this season but the prospect of remaining involved at National One for another year, and playing and training locally, was of great appeal. He said “I have always wanted to play at Doncaster and I couldn’t refuse the chance to do so late in my career. There are two very talented young scrum halves here whom I can help develop. I hope to get a fair share of game time too and having extra competition for places is always a good thing in any squad. I have no issues about my fitness and feel well up to playing at this level for at least another year. I can also take my coaching to another level ay Castle Park and look forward to helping Griff out through the season.”
